Yinson GreenTech and CelcomDigi announce Malaysia’s first lease-to-own rydeEV electric bike with postpaid plan subscription

Yinson GreenTech has teamed up with CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”), Malaysia’s widest and fastest mobile network operator, to allow CelcomDigi customers to own a rydeEV electric bike (“e-bike”) via its ‘lease-to-own’ postpaid account – the first scheme of its kind in Malaysia.

The plan, which was launched at the rydeEV Experience Centre in Petaling Jaya, aims to spur the adoption and growth of e-bikes in Malaysia’s nascent 2-wheeler segment. Present to witness the collaboration and launch were the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Yinson Holdings Berhad Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lim Chern Yuan and CelcomDigi Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Idham Nawawi.

rydeEV’s Ryder and Hyper e-bikes will be made available to customers through CelcomDigi’s Easy360 instalment plan, which includes unlimited battery swaps at rydeEV’s battery swapping stations, as well as road tax, insurance coverage and maintenance costs. The instalment plan is exclusive to CelcomDigi customers who sign up for the Postpaid 5G plan.

Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said, “The Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry welcomes cross-industry collaboration, and this is well-reflected in policies such as the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP2030), and the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP2020). Malaysia’s EV industry, for example, is growing on the back of a strong semiconductor industry and is expected to catalyse the growth of Malaysia’s manufacturing-based exports. Today, It is encouraging to again see a crossindustry and unique, first-of-its-kind collaboration between CelcomDigi and Yinson GreenTech to drive affordable access to EVs, particularly for Malaysians to benefit from Budget 2024’s Electric Motorcycle Usage Scheme, and contribute to Malaysia’s net zero target by 2050.”

Mr Lim Chern Yuan expressed his excitement towards the collaboration, “We are thrilled to partner CelcomDigi in pioneering the adoption and growth of e-bikes in the country. Yinson GreenTech offers a range of integrated green tech solutions in the transport electrification space and is looking forward to innovating partnerships with likeminded businesses across all industries to reduce their carbon footprint. We also commend the government for playing a crucial role in making e-bikes more accessible to the public through various initiatives under the National Energy Transition Roadmap.”

Datuk Idham Nawawi said, “Major shifts in the transportation landscape all point to electric vehicles being the future, and we now have the opportunity to accelerate EV adoption in Malaysia. Change can come fast if we think differently about cross-industry collaborations, which is why I am excited with our partnership with Yinson Greentech. Together, we can make EV more accessible to a large number of Malaysians at scale, quickly, in the most convenient and familiar way – now as easy as subscribing to a postpaid plan. We are contributing towards the future of transportation as well as driving environmental sustainability for Malaysia.”

This launch follows on from the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in September 2023 between CelcomDigi and Yinson Holdings Berhad to partner in the development of innovative EV services and infrastructure for Malaysian consumers.
