Yinson GreenTech and BEV Charging Company partner to expand smart EV charging infrastructure in Brunei

Yinson GreenTech and BEV Charging Company (“BEV”), Brunei’s first and leading public charge point operator, have inked an agreement that will see charge points across the nation integrated into the chargEV app, offering motorists a combined network of over 1,000 chargers across Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

With this partnership, motorists in Brunei can join other chargEV app users in the region to seamlessly discover, activate and make payment for the utilisation of charging points through the chargEV app. The partnership signals greater convenience for EV drivers on cross border trips as they can use the chargEV app to access the extensive network of charge points in the region, with payments being made in local currency.

The agreement was inked in a signing ceremony at the satellite showroom of Maju Motor Sdn Bhd (“Maju Motors”) in The Mall Gadong, where Brunei’s first charge points were installed in November 2023 by Maju Motors, who is the authorised dealer for BYD in Brunei, and BEV, who is the authorised charge point operator. These charge points will be integrated into the chargEV app in about two weeks’ time, with more charge points to follow suit in the coming months.

Managing Director of Yinson GreenTech’s digital arm, DigitalEV, Mr Sreedhar Sivasambu, said that the partnership signalled a major breakthrough for Brunei’s EV industry, as it addressed its biggest growth hurdle – range anxiety. Speaking at the ceremony, he said, “Yinson GreenTech has developed a range of smart digital solutions that can help businesses, communities and individuals to transition easily and affordably to EVs. We are passionate about working with likeminded partners such as BEV to tailor our solutions to local needs. Together, we look forward to building an ecosystem of green transportation that contributes positively towards the achievement of Brunei’s net zero goals.”

Executive Director of BEV, Mr Ryan Phua, stated, “As one of the pioneers in Brunei’s fledgling EV space, we are excited to partner with Yinson GreenTech, whose solutions have been a major accelerator of EV adoption in the region. Our aim is to support the transition from conventional cars to EVs, towards cultivating a zero emissions lifestyle in Brunei in alignment with the Sultanate’s Vision 2035. Getting onto the chargEV app is just the beginning. In cooperation with other local industry players and the Brunei government, we are working together to build a strong EV infrastructure across all four districts in Brunei.”
